2013 showreel now live

After wading through and editing I have a version of my showreel I’m happy to punt around for now.
There’s always room to improve and chop and change in future, but for now here’s my brand new showreel for you to watch and enjoy.
For the best experience watch in fullscreen and HD

Hope you enjoy! What do you think? Leave a comment for me and share to friends or family you think could be interested in my skills.

I want your music! For my showreel!

I’m making a brand new show reel to promote and show case my animation abilities but also would like a good soundtrack to accompany my short film clips, this is where you come in!
If you’re a budding soundtrack composer, rock out in a band, strum acoustically or mix electronic beeps and whistles I want to help to promote you too!
No need to record something new, time is very short for me at the moment, but if you have a track, instrumental or otherwise you would allow me to use in a show reel, I will give full captioned credits to you/your band.

Know someone who might be interested? Forward this on to them, I’m looking at getting finished by the 10th September at the latest so time is short, however I may make additional changes after this date so please don’t be put off, unfortunately I cannot use all submitted songs but I will use the most suitable sample/s for the footage and purpose.

Thanks! I look forward to hearing from you!

Now YouTube monetization approved

I’ve played about with some old email accounts linked to gmail and Adsense (would you know i had £20 in ad money in a google account from 2004… Can’t withdraw till £60) and this freed up some access rights and restrictions, updated terms and conditions agreements etc enough for me to be eligible to make money from adverts ever displayed alongside my YouTube videos.

So i went through the settings of my YouTube uploads adding the monetize option to all uploads i have creative rights to which basically knocks out any music videos i made back in college and any game, tv or film clips. Though i was able to link one or two to make money from, i opted not to just because I know I do not.

I’d probably take home something like 1p or less per ad view, if ads are ever displayed by my videos and haven’t been bypassed or blocked by the viewer.

So if you’re ever watching one of my animations or anything i produce & a little ad is shown, please put up with it I’ll get a penny in the tip jar eventually :-p

Building a custom home made chroma key green screen.

I decided, to build a green screen wall for chroma key backgrounds in my animations, looking at originally using pieces of card, however that added up as more costly in the long run and I wanted a more permanent solution, that wouldn’t require extra storage.

This build has cost me £53.58 in total for 4 hard board sheets, 2 tubs of paint and a paint roller all from the hardware store B&Q.

I’ve been making small video diaries showing the progress so I’ll put these below along with pictures.

and finally a test

I reckon with some lighting and care this will turn out to be very useful asset to my studio.

Still needs some tweaking, the filler between the boards didn’t work very well and has cracked in the heat the UK has had this week. So I have repainted the joins with a 50:50 latex blend of the green, however this has dried a lot darker than the other paint for some reason, so could probably do with another coat of paint on top of everything again to better ensure a closer colour tone.

Moo business card review

Update: I’ve ordered myself some matte business cards
If you fancy placing an order you can use my link to get £10 off for new customers, and I get a little thanks too.

In my last post I mentioned I had ordered a sample pack from Moo.com I had some interest for a review and even more so for the Luxe cards.
So I dusted off my camcorder, mounted it on a tripod and got filming, many hours of encoding and uploading later I present my attempt at reviewing my sample packs from moo.

A new graphic design

Today I’ve been working on puppet clothes and website social network graphic design, after some designs in my sketchbook I switched to photoshop, some font trials, tweaking and pushing later I have a style I’m happy with that I hope comes across as smart and looks equally good across all media, as this will be on my new CV resume, letters and business cards etc.

Clear text, sprinkle of style and a cheeky peek

Clear text, sprinkle of style and a cheeky peek

I’ve ordered free standard and luxe sample packs from Moo.com to see which of their card styles I like, I’ve heard great things about their card quality, presentation, price and service, I’ve also liked a fair few cards I’ve been given that I’ve been told have been printed with Moo so we’ll see if I like them enough to place an order. I’ll write my experiences here.

I’ve not played about with my twitter background yet, but have decided to change my header image to a still from a recent animation, as I think that seems more appealing than my name plastered over the page more than it is.

Anyway you can see my new theme styles on this very website, my youtube, facebook page and soon Google+ as well as watermarks and credit title sequences on any media I might post here 🙂

What do you think? Get in touch, like, share and leave some comments.

I’ll start sharing some production photos soon of the Bin The L Plates project, like latex hand moulds and tiny puppet clothes, interesting curiosities!

Update: I’ve added some thumbnails to the designs now, some (like Youtube and Google+) will only show if on an extended sized display (eg a youtube smart tv application or something like that) I believe this will instantly give people an idea of my work and brings a splash of colour. I’ve also made my Twitter background which looks nice at both 150% and 100% sizes.

Computer fixed, bring on the graphics!

Sometime last year my nvidia gtx 470 graphics card kept crashing, rebooting and leaving artefacts on screen. Apart from an enquiry email regarding returning it, of which i could, i just put up with it’s decline till February where i put it in for a replacement unit whilst i was abroad.
Thankfully after a good round cycle ride the unit is back in my computer fully working pumping away happily, I’ll be adding an arctic cooler twin turbo II to my computer soon as i believe heat was really the main issue in it’s demise.

So what does this mean? Well it now means i have my main media machine back in operation now, and I can finally work on a nice new design for my CV, business cards and this website, uniting them with a concurrent style throughout.
As well as being able to edit my media files to get some animations produced, mustn’t forget that!
